Small Town 4th of July

Gotta love a small town with holiday traditions. This is my first 4th in Orleans and we started the celebration by walking to the fire house where the firemen and women fix a pancake breakfast. A beautiful and modern facility, the firehouse is set back off the road behind some tall trees. One walks down a slope where the building is 2 story with the bay and big trucks on the lower side, offices and sleeping quarters at ground level. There are a couple of the big trucks we used to call hook and ladder, now are known as towers. Several smaller vehicles and some rescue boats. Cape Cod is surrounded by water and Orleans has both CC Bay and Atlantic beaches.

Breakfast was served in the bay and the firefighters were serving up pancakes and sausage, coffee, and juice. Nice facility. Against one wall were open lockers with hats, jackets, boots, etc, all that a firefighter would need when called to duty. No pole, but I doubt that they are used any more!

Children got red plastic fireman hats and climbed into the trucks. All very small town charming. I’m happy to be part of this.
