Loving summer on Cape Cod. Last year I only got a chance to visit Cape Cod off and on as I was caring for my mother back in Texas. This year we arrived on June 20 along with the first official day of summer.
Am I part of the ‘summer people’ or more than that? I’ll stay through the fall and into winter. Either way, I’m a ‘wash ashore’. That’s what they call people not born and raised on the Cape, like we were bobbing in the ocean and just showed up on the beach, washed ashore with the tide.
July 4th was a Tuesday this year, and all week, beginning last Friday, we’ve seen an increase in the number of people in town and along the roads. This morning we slept late – almost 8 am, which is pretty late when you know that the sun comes up at 4:30 am. Took a walk to Hole-in-One for omelettes but the line was out the door. A few minutes makes a difference in the summer.
